International architecture and planning practice 5+design has designed a new public park next to Moscow Metro Station.

Paveletskaya Place is a large, multi-functional public park in the city’s Zamoskvorechye District.

The project spotlights the public realm and features programmable plazas, restaurants and an event terrace.

Lush gardens and an urban forest located at the edges of the plot fold into the open public section and are punctuated by two atrium spaces.

Pedestrians enter this urban square from all sides while metro and rail passengers enter the retail mall through the park.

Layers accentuate the interconnected spaces. Sunken plazas and stepped gardens meet with elevated, cantilevered lawns and sculptural covered spaces. Below this lush ground level, three floors of retail are lit by light penetrating the park surface above.

Two large sky lit atrium spaces focus on the main focal points of the shopping centre: The Fashion Atrium and Food Hall Atrium.

The larger of the two atrium spaces highlights a cascading natural landscape which ascends from the retail levels to the park; merging interior and exterior environments.

Cascading steps lead into the Fashion Atrium and the other skylight brings greenery and light together.
