A team of architects, landscape architects, planners and engineers has delivered a design for Yongsan Park in Seoul.
The team includes West 8, Iroje architects and planners and Dong Il Engineering.
Their design involves the restoration of the ridgeline connecting Youngsan Park to Namsan and beyond.
Along this new topography, West 8 has created diverse biotopes reflecting the many beautiful landscapes seen in Korea.
Yongsan Park features open meadows, deep forests, rocky cascades and wetlands.
The US Army is moving to the recently finalised military base in Pyeongtaek, outside of Seoul and this relocation means that the project can move to the next phase of development which includes a future central park in Seoul.
The 12.6 ha. Gwanghwamun Square is located in Seoul and sits north of the future Yongsan Park.
An international design competition for the design of the 12.6ha square was organised by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Adriaan Geuze, West 8’s design director, sat on the jury board of the competition, which was won by CA Landscaping Professional Engineers Office.
